5 Ways to Refresh Your Home for Spring

Spring is here and even though we celebrated it a day early this year, it’s here nevertheless. Were starting to open our windows a little bit more during the day and maybe even starting to enjoy evenings out on the patio, the dry evenings anyway. But if you’re looking to add a little bit more freshness to your home this spring here are five simple ways to do so.

#1. Bring the outdoors inside.

If you have some daffodils or tulips that are starting to open up, click a few and put them on the dining room table in a beautiful big clear bowl. All of a sudden it feels much brighter, cleaner and refreshing in the house when you bring the outside green in. Greens even can make a lovely addition to a living room, dining room table or a bathroom. It doesn’t have to have any color except for green, but it will make a definite difference.

#2. Step up your color game.

Going with a new coat of paint in one of the more used rooms will add a fresh new look. Don’t be scared of color, unless you’re planning on selling your home. Bright, bold, or dark colors in small rooms can make the room feel even smaller so keep it light, airy, fresh, and warm. Creamy versions of neutrals, barely yellow, or a light peach can add a beautiful and fresh new feel to bathrooms and kitchens. Consider painting just an accent wall a bold, fun color. Using photos and frames with contrasting color can really make the items pop on an accent wall.

#3. Reorganize bookshelves.

This is a great thing to do every spring and if you’re like me, it forces you to dust. I have bookshelves with so many knickknacks on them that the thought of removing the mall to dust every month or so is exhausting, but, if once a year I rearrange everything on those bookshelves in different patterns and color tones, it gives me a good chance to clean and purge if necessary. Consider stacking books in different directions, color-coding them, or adding accent pieces as bookends.

#4. New window treatments.

Window treatments are one of those things you don’t really think about until you’re sitting staring out the window wondering how long have I had those? Spring is a great time to update any heavier drapes and curtains for lighter, more summery colors. It’s a simple way to control the light and privacy as well as style.

#5. A welcoming entryway.

Consider changing out your front door mat, adding a colorful spring wreath, or putting in a flower arrangement, painted crates, or big pots. Get some great ideas on Pinterest on how you can create a spring look for your front porch.
