5 Places Clean Out Before the New Year Starts

December 28, 2020 by Dale Corpus Leave a Comment

There is nothing like a new year to get us motivated to do some extra cleaning projects. The week between Christmas and New Year’s Day is a great time to get cleaning projects accomplished. Many of us have time off from work and/or are already taking some time to clean up boxes and wrapping and get decorations stored away.

In the midst of running around to get the house back in order after Christmas, here are some other items to clean up and clear out before the New Year arrives to get it started on a motivated foot.

Old Pillows5 Places Clean Out Before the New Year Starts

According to experts, your pillows should be switched out every one to two years. If you have had pillows for a long time and can’t remember when you purchased them, it is definitely time for a new one. If your pillows are not that old, toss them in the washing machine according to the directions on the care tag.

Unused Winter Clothes and Coats

If you have gone the entire winter season without wearing an item, it is a good idea to pass it on to someone who will give it some use. There is still a good amount of cold weather left for someone else to make use of the items.

Food that Just Sits in the Pantry

If you have any boxed or canned food that just sits on your shelves, this is a good time to box it up and send it to the food bank. This year has been especially rough and many food banks are in need of more donations.

Pile of Mugs

Many of us have piles of mugs in our cupboards. We go somewhere and the easiest souvenir to pick up is a mug. We use them every day. Or we receive a cute gift from a friend in the form of a mug and maybe a gift card and a treat. Before we know it, our cupboards are overly full. Take five minutes to look in the mug cupboard and pull out the ones that you forgot you owned.

Rugs

We may not realize it, but our rugs can be a home for a fair amount of yuck. Even if you have been good about vacuuming them and getting them deep cleaned, over time they need to be replaced. In addition, entry mats should be replaced. The state of the mats at your exterior doors plays a huge role in the cleanliness of the floors in your entire home. So if you have had your mats for longer than about 5 years, it’s time for some new ones.

Professional Cleanings

Right now is the perfect time for professional cleaning help. You have just come through the festivities of the holidays and are getting ready to make a fresh start in the new year. So why not put a pep in your step by having your home professionally cleaned, especially the floors.
